Lighthouse Fish Market & Restaurant

2451 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10027

The Lighthouse is the go-to spot for the best Soulfood & Seafood in Harlem.

What year did you open your business and why?
I opened Lighthouse in the summer of 2014 in Harlem because I felt like there was a need for a restaurant that offered both traditional soul food and fresh, healthy options. Before Lighthouse, very few – if any – restaurants in Harlem allowed customers to customize food, have it cooked in front of them, and easily take it to go if they chose to do so. At Lighthouse, the customer is the master of their own plate.

What do you love about your neighborhood?
I love that my neighborhood is full of passionate, opinionated people who know exactly what they want. Without the raw, honest feedback from members of my community, Lighthouse wouldn't be open today. My community challenges me to not only deliver the best quality food and service possible, but to innovate in ways that keeps them coming back.

How have real estate pressures impacted your business in the last 10 years?
Rent and tax increases have had the biggest impact. They create a financial burden that I reluctantly have had to pass onto the customers by increasing the cost of food.
