What year did you open your business and why?
We opened Da Claudio on November 14, 2014, a little more than two years post-Hurricane Sandy, after our original restaurant on Historic Front Street was completely destroyed by the storm. We had a deep commitment to our family, our employees, and our community to reopen our successful small business and rebuild our neighborhood after such devastation.

What do you love about your neighborhood?
We have lived in the area since 2000, opened a small business back in 2006, and have seen the neighborhood transform to what it is today. The commitment to rebuild was strongly encouraged by the strong support from our inclusive and diverse community. We love to be a part of such a resilient neighborhood. We are dedicated to servicing our tight knit community.

How have real estate pressures impacted your business in the last 10 years?
As the neighborhood was revitalized, an increase in demand for other services and storefronts in a highly concentrated area resulted in an increase in rent. On one hand, the increasing residential community helped businesses to grow, but at times it was not enough to meet the astronomical increases. We have to be creative and constantly look at different ways to bring people through the doors and manage increased food costs, rents, and labor costs.

What project do you plan to use the Love Your Local grant funding to implement?
We primarily want to focus on marketing the brand via a new and updated website, identify and focus on promoting our brand outside of the neighborhood via platforms that were previously inaccessible to us. We would like to invest in upgrades that would make a difference to our client base, focusing on projects that previously were out of financial reach. We would love to invest in specialty equipment that would greatly increase our product selection and stand out from our competition.
